Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Department of Port Administration is sharing concerns raised by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in relation to overheating vapes on airplanes.

We’ve had it with these overheating vapes, they said. “Pack your vape safely when traveling by air. Electronic smoking devices should be turned off and carried on, never checked. Do not use or charge them on the aircraft,” says the FAA in a statement posted on their official page.

According to the FAA some of the items packed in your baggage may be considered dangerous goods, also known as hazardous material.

“Most dangerous goods are forbidden in carry-on and checked baggage. “There are a few exceptions for some personal items such as toiletries, medicines, and assistive devices.” The FAA pointed to a chart on the web (https://www.faa.gov/hazmat/packsafe/) to see which common dangerous goods are allowed in checked and/or carry-on baggage and which are not.

“Remember, this is just a listing of common dangerous goods; if you don't see your item here it doesn't mean it's allowed in baggage. When in doubt, leave it out!”
