Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Tax refund checks are being released today, March 8, according to an announcement from Treasurer Malemo Tausaga. This is the first batch of refunds released for the 2022 tax filing period.

Refunds are going to 1,000 taxpayers who were the first t to file their 2022 taxes on January 2, even though it was a holiday.

The refund checks in Batch #1 total $3.4 million. Local refunds amount to $1.6 million with additional Child Tax Credit refunds totaling $818,303 and Earned Income Tax Credit refunds totaling $953,615.

The checks will be distributed through direct deposits to bank accounts, the Post Office or at the Disbursing Office.

Last year the first batch of refund checks was released on March 11.
