Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights announced this week the first set of meetings for its newly appointed American Samoa Advisory Committee. As previously reported by Samoa News, the Commission announced in March this year the appointment of members to the newly established U.S Territory Advisory Committees of American Samoa and Guam, effective March 11.

For American Samoa, the members are Roy J. D. Hall, Jr. (chair); Daniel Aga; Dora Ah Sue; Jude Chun; Asaua Fuimaono; Lillian Langford; Juanita Leiato-Manutulila; and Madjid Shehri.

According to the Commission’s notice issued this week, the American Samoa Advisory Committee will hold a series of meetings via Webex platform on June 16, July 21, and Aug. 18. These meetings are for the purpose of discussing the Committee's first project topic, according to the notice, which didn’t name the specific topic of discussion.

The notice does state that records and documents discussed during the meetings will be available for public viewing prior to and after the meeting. Details on the link and other info on federal portal (www.regulations.gov).

There have been questions among some members of the community about the work of this new advisory commission and how the public could participate in their discussions.
