Fortunately still no COVID at Manu’a but one more death on Tutuila
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — LBJ Medical Center has recorded another COVID-19 related death — as of Apr. 12 — bringing the total number of fatalities to 19, since the first death was reported on Mar. 22, according to officials who participated in yesterday’s COVID-19 Task Force daily briefing.
And the latest fatality is a 73-year old male, according to LBJ’s presentation at the briefing, which includes “one” case that is “under review” — meaning confirming if it’s COVID related.
The Health Department presentation at the briefing also gives the total overall fatalities at 19 as of Apr. 12, with the new death reported from LBJ.
DoH also reported 41 new positive cases as of Apr. 12, with the total cumulative of 5,517 since the community outbreak was recorded on Feb. 21. At yesterday’s briefing, there are about 1,529 active cases.
The Manu’a islands remains COVID free, according to DoH data, which shows that Tafuna village remains with the highest number of positive cases, followed by Nu’uuli.
