Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — University of Hawaii President David Lassner (3rd left) along with faculty members and staff met with Gov. Lemanu P. S. Mauga last week at the American Samoa Government Office in Hawaii.

The discussions centered around future plans in the territory — including establishing additional UH COHORTS for American Samoan students, with the goal of expanding educational opportunities beyond Education Degree studies to potentially include other majors.

Governor Lemanu expressed his appreciation to President Lassner and his team for their dedication to fostering educational opportunities for American Samoa.

"We are thankful for the University of Hawaii's commitment to our students. This collaboration will pave the way for a brighter future for our young minds, especially those who cannot leave home to further their education," Lemanu said.

According to a Governor’s Office press release, the recent meetings mark a significant step forward in forging partnerships that will positively impact American Samoa's development across various sectors.

Together with First Lady Ella, he is expected to return to the territory today, August 14, 2023.
