Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — As the transfer of government was accomplished earlier this week with the inauguration of Governor Pulaali'i Nikolao Pula and Lt. Governor Pulu Ae Ae, Jr, the new governor issued Memorandum 002-25 delineating the interim leadership during the transition.
“As we begin a new chapter of leadership for the American Samoa Government, please be advised that all directors appointed under the previous administration have been relieved of their duties effective January 3, 2025. Deputies of departments, agencies, and offices will assume the role of Acting Director and take full responsibility for departmental operations and management until permanent appointments are finalized. Departments with multiple deputies will have the more senior individual in terms of years of total service for ASG assume the role of Acting Director.
2. Departments Without Deputies:
Those departments without a deputy present are directed to immediately consult with the Governor's Office so that a suitable interim leader may be identified and designated as Acting Director. This individual should be a senior-level staff member capable of providing the necessary leadership during this transition period.
Key Responsibilities for Acting Directors:
• Operational Oversight: Acting Directors will oversee daily operations, ensuring all programs and services remain active and effective.
