Governor sends 5 more cabinet picks to fono for confirmation

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Five more director-nominees submitted by Gov. Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga to the Fono were introduced this week in the House of Representatives and assigned to the appropriate committees for confirmation hearings next week. The same nominees were already introduced in the Senate earlier this week.

The governor submitted his nominations to the Fono with individual cover letters, which includes the nominee’s resume and the governor’s endorsement.

Solialealofiotagaloa Iosua Tasi Mutini was nominated as director of the Department of Agriculture. His nomination is assigned to the House Agriculture Committee for his confirmation hearing, scheduled Wednesday next week at 8:30a.m, under the leadership of committee chair, Rep. Ape Mike Asifoa. He was endorsed yesterday by the Senate in a 16-2 vote.

Kenneth Soala Tupua was nominated for the post of director of the Department of Parks & Recreation. His confirmation hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday at 11a.m under the leadership of Rep. Manumaua Wayne Wilson, the chair of the House Parks and Recreation committee. The Senate has approved Tupua in a 16- 2 vote.

Taotasi Archie Soliai was nominated for director of Marine and Wildlife Resources. Taotasi’s confirmation hearing is scheduled for Thursday next week at 8:30a.m. He was confirmed by the Senate this week by an unanimous vote, 18-0.

Samana Ve’ave’a as director of the Department of Homeland Security. Lemanu said Samana has years of experience dealing with emergency management including serving as the director of the department for the past Administration.
