Governor’s office to centralize all government news
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Tuimavave Tauapai Laupola has informed cabinet members that the Communications division of the Governor’s Office — GOVNET COMMS — requests assistance in providing a Public Affairs Officer (PAO) for each respective agency.
He explained that he is tasking GOVNET COMMS to centralize all government news and information regarding upcoming and current events as they occur in respective offices of ASG agencies.
“In the spirit of practicing good governance, our due diligence to being as transparent as possible will keep American Samoa and her citizens informed about the Administration’s progress,” said Tuimavave.
He requested that directors assign a representative to serve as a PAO for their respective offices and have their names submitted for inclusion in the ASG Communications and Public Affairs Group (CPAG).
Tuimavave said an initial meeting is forthcoming to layout initiatives and expectations of CPAG at a later date.
The Governor’s Office Communication officer, Fiafia Sunia has been handling the distribution of memos and other press releases from the Governor’s Office since the new Administration took office in January this year.
[Editor’s Note: Samoa News finds this a slap in the face by the Lemanu Administration to freedom of the press. What happened to the administration’s call for transparency? When you control the flow of information, you corrupt the process of government for the people, of the people, by the people. ra]
