Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Just in time for Mother’s Day shopping and celebration, ASG Treasury announced yesterday the release today, Friday, May 12, of more than $3 million in tax refund checks for Batch #6.

ASG Acting Treasurer Levi Reese said in a brief statement that a total of 926 taxpayers who filed on Feb. 16 to partial of Feb. 22, 2023 — for tax year 2022 — will be getting their refunds through direct deposits, the U.S Post Office and pick up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building (EOB) in Utulei.

Of the total of more than $3.62 million for Batch #6, Treasury says that just over $1.65 million is funded with local revenues; $755,031 for the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) and more than $1.21 million in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The ACTC and EITC portions of tax refunds are federally funded.

Treasury says that if you were expecting your refund and did not receive it, please call (633-4181) or visit the Tax Office — the ground floor of the EOB — for further information and assistance.

The latest tax refund batch comes just in time for Mother’s Day this Sunday, with extra money in hand for recipients to shop and celebrate. And the new cash is a great boost to the local economy, giving customers more purchasing power.
