Health Dept. releases information on latest COVID related death

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — LBJ Medical Center has recorded one new COVID-19 related death — as of Apr. 13 — bringing the total number of fatalities to 20, since the first death was reported on Mar. 22, according to officials who participated in Thursday’s COVID-19 Task Force daily briefing.

LBJ reported at the briefing that the new fatality is a 64 year old female who received two COVID doses but no booster shot. Furthermore, the hospital reports that another death is under review for conformation that it was COVID related.

In its presentation at the briefing, Health Department also reported total cumulative death relating to COVID at 20 - as of Apr. 13.

DoH also reported that on Apr. 13, a total of 47 new positive cases were recorded from both DoH and LBJ testing sites. And the positives includes 2 children who are about 5 years and younger.

The total cumulative COVID-19 community spread as of Apr. 13 is 5,564 positive cases, with 1,357 currently active. Of the total cumulative count, DoH data show that 4,725 or 84.9% of them are fully vaccinated and 2,1547 or 38.77% with a booster shot.

At the time of Thursday morning briefing, the Manu’a island remains COVID-free, according to DoH data, which shows that Tafuna village remains with the highest number of positive cases with 962, followed by Nu’uuli with 630 and Leone with 430.

Meanwhile, DoH reminds the public that its clinics are closed today, Friday, Apr. 15 due to the Good Friday holiday and also next week Monday, Apr. 18 for the 2022 Flag Day holiday. For more information on DoH clinics and test sites call 219.
