Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — An 18-year-old male, believed to be a high school senior, was found dead at his home in Pago Pago yesterday morning. This was confirmed by a reliable source who spoke to Samoa News about the incident.

A group of police officers — some of them armed — were spotted at the scene early yesterday morning to begin their investigation into the matter, while a crowd of people were seen standing around the area, trying to find out what was going on.

Samoa News arrived at the scene in time to witness the body of the deceased being placed into an EMS unit before being transported to the LBJ Medical Center.

A senior police officer who wished not to be named, confirmed to Samoa News that they were responding to a phone call from a relative of the deceased, who claimed that the teen was found dead inside a room.

“As of right now, detectives are just starting their investigation into the matter and we need to interview several people in an effort to put together a clear picture of what caused the incident. So, at this time, we have nothing to say until this investigation is completed,” the senior police officer told Samoa News.

Sources tell Samoa News that it was around 7a.m yesterday morning that the deceased’s older brother walked into the house to wake his younger brother up for school. The older brother was in shock when he opened the room and saw his younger brother hanging from the ceiling.

According to a report from EMS personnel, the deceased was unresponsive when they arrived at the scene. His body was transported to LBJ Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
