Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — As of 2:16 p.m. yesterday, a wind advisory, high surf advisory, and flash flood watch remained in effect for American Samoa.

Wet conditions that developed over the weekend got worse yesterday morning when traffic in certain areas around the territory was slowed, due to flooding on the main road.

In the west, Samoa News received reports that flooding in the Fagaima area was so bad, traffic was re-routed towards Ottoville where the area in front of the Mormon church (which was reportedly fixed) had again took in water and causing traffic delays.

Coming out towards the main road between SSAB Pago and Argosy University, motorists driving small sedans report having to turn around and go around back towards the golf course because the water was too high for them to drive through.

Heading east from there, another problematic area was the main road fronting the American Samoa Community College (ASCC) campus where rivers overflowed and water was accumulating - with nowhere for it to go.

Coming from the east side of the island, the area between the Satala Shipyard and the former Karaoke Night Club was the worst. Full size trucks had to inch their way through, as the water was halfway up the doors.

The weather is expected to clear up by tonight.

Despite the gloomy conditions, school was still in session and it was a normal workday for everyone. No mudslides or accidents resulting from the weather conditions were reported as of press time yesterday.

Local residents are reminded that this is American Samoa's hurricane season, and everyone should be prepared.

The National Weather Service at Pago Page predicts, Tuesday, Dec. 11 will be cloudy, rainy at times. Conditions are predicted to improve for tomorrow, with a few afternoon showers. Partial sunshine is in the forecast for Thursday and Friday, according to the weather report, it will be cloudy "most of the time".
