Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Flags in American Samoa have been flying at half-staff — as seen in this Samoa News photos of the flags to the entrance of the Port of Pago Pago — since yesterday, Apr. 27 through today, Apr. 28 following an Apr. 26 order by Gov. Lemanu P. S. Mauga, “as a show of respect for former Western District Governor Fuamatu Joseph Vito Fuamatu, who passed away in March.”

“As we reflect on the life of Fuamatu Joseph Vito Fuamatu, let us remember his military service and his service to our Territory as Western District Governor and Senator of Alataua County,” the governor pointed out.

“Let us also take a moment to be grateful for all the great leaders who have helped preserve the tenets and ideals of our democracy,” the governor said.
