Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — After a follow-up site visit by the Dept of Health’s Environmental Health Services Division this past Monday, confirming that all is in good order, Dept. of Human and Social Services (DHSS) director Muavaefaatasi John E. Suisala announced that Hope House Child Care Center - one of the two local daycare facilities that remained closed after 20 others were allowed to reopen this past Monday - is approved to resume services effective yesterday, Tuesday, Jan. 14th.

“Please be reminded that the conditions for mitigating the spread of measles will be observed by this center, as it is with the other 20 that re-opened” on Monday, said a statement from DHSS.

Christmas Day Care is now the only child care facility that remains closed until further notice.

Daycare centers were shut down for an extra week as health officials and DHSS personnel wanted to ensure that all kids being served at these facilities were fully immunized and up to date with their shots, to avoid the spread of measles.
