Households told to prepare for positive cases as count reaches 494

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Dept. of Health is encouraging all families to prepare for when someone in their household tests positive for COVID-19 and is in isolation at home.  This comes about as the positive count rose to 494 after Friday’s testing, with the total in Tafuna reaching 100.

According to a release issued Saturday evening, on March 11, 2022, 61 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 from 650 tests conducted by the department of health and LBJ Hospital.

In the 24 hours ending Friday, 22 previous positive cases recovered; and there was one (1) new hospitalization and 0 deaths due to COVID-19.  Now 44 of the previously positive cases have recovered.

The report places the cumulative COVID-19 case count through Friday at 494. Those who test positive have been isolated at home for 14 days. They must stay away from other people, who may include others in their home.

With the quick spread of COVID-19 on island, DOH encourages all families to prepare for when someone in the household tests positive by stocking up or by designating someone outside the home to run important errands for the household.

VACCINATIONS

COVID-19 Vaccination sites report 835 doses were administered and of these, about 770 doses were boosters.

DOH advises that getting vaccinated and boosted prevents severe illness, hospitalizations, and death.

People 65 and older who are vaccinated and boosted are 97 times less likely to be hospitalized due to COVID-19. Older adults, and those who live with, visit or provide care for them, are advised to get their booster shots.
