Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — In the Samoa News story published last Friday, May 14, 2021, “The oral traditions of Manu’a — time to preserve them local scholars say,” the leaders from the Manu’a Island who offered information to the Samoan Studies Institute (SSI) at the American Samoa Community College (ASCC for the new book, “Ua Tālā le Ta’ui 4” were listed and erroneous included Le’i Sonny Thompson of Olosega as one of the group, while mistakenly not listing HTC Malemo Tausaga of Olosega.

Malemo, the American Samoa Government (ASG) Treasurer, agreed to share his understanding and knowledge of the folklores of the green in “Talamoa”. He affirmed his support of SSI efforts to record traditional narratives and oral literature from different villages, so that it would be of use — like a seed planted — for the future generations.

Malemo is aware of the many publications with different opinions on the folklores of the Samoan Island, but he was grateful and thankful for this project, to finally have the opportunity to share folklore from his beloved village of Olosega.
