Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Congresswoman Uifa’atali Amata is highlighting Mental Health Awareness Month, and how people can seek out assistance if needed or find emergency services.

“In recent years, we have made progress in putting more emphasis on recognizing mental health struggles, and especially in realizing that people with a health issue should never be stigmatized,” said Congresswoman Amata. “The truth is, a mental health crisis or battle with anxiety, depression or sleeplessness can happen to anyone, just as anyone can get an unexpected diagnosis of any other health need.”

“This month is about learning where to turn, and being aware of signs of crisis in ourselves, our loved ones, friends or neighbors. Unrecognized, untreated and undiagnosed health needs can lead to tragic outcomes like suicide, homelessness, joblessness or loss of relationships, when counseling, rest, and other remedies and support could help and provide hope.”
