June food index shows price hike in 8 items
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Eight food commodities increased in price for June, according to the June 2020 Basic Food Index (BFI) report released by the ASG Commerce Department, which surveyed seven major food outlets.
Those food items which increased in price include chicken legs, fresh fish, rice, sausage, canned tuna, bread, eggs and corned beef. Of the increase, sausage, rice and eggs had the greatest month-over-month price hikes which resulted in the 0.7% increase for the BFI.
Only three food items average prices decreased. They are pork spare ribs, taro and milk. Pork spare ribs dropped by 2.0% after having a 0.5% increase last month leaving the cost of taro and milk with minimal decreases of less than one-percent each.
According to the BFI report, the rest of the food items remained constant in June.
