KHJ staffers garner national broadcasting nominations
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — South Seas Broadcasting General Manager Joey Cummings (left) has been listed as a nominee to receive the prestigious radio industry award: The Marconi.
Cummings was named as a finalist for “Legendary General Manager of The Year” from among thousands of nominees from radio stations across the U.S.
Cummings said that emergency coverage during cyclones, pandemics and tsunamis, community outreach interviews, support of civic organizations and a veteran news team are what made this nomination possible.
“I am humbled by the recognition and have been blessed with a great team of employees who collectively work together to create unique, localized content for the people of American Samoa,” Cummings said.
In addition to Cummings’ nod, the Samoan Sunrise show with John Raynar (right) and Sia Atofau (middle), has also been listed as top 5 Finalist as Small Market Personalities of the year. This is the second such honor for Raynar who was also named in 2021
The Marconi’s are named after Nobel Prize winning inventor Guglielmo Marconi who’s credited with the invention of modern radio. The winners will be announced in October at the annual award show, hosted by the National Association of Broadcasters in New York City.
