Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — It’s a three-day weekend for the territory, as American Samoa joins the rest of the nation on Monday, Sept. 2 to mark the Labor Day holiday — which is both a local and federal holiday.

“Labor Day is a time to honor and recognize the labor movement and all laborers for their contributions to the development and achievement of our great Nation. I encourage you all to take time this weekend to honor and celebrate all the working people of our Territory,” Lt. Governor Laapui Talauega E.V. Ale in his capacity as Acting Governor said. “Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.”

With Monday a holiday, all government offices will be closed as well as the majority in the private sector.

The US Post Service Office will also be closed on Monday, as well as all federal offices in the Territory.

Meanwhile, public school classrooms officially open on Tuesday, Sept. 3 to start the new school year 2024/2025.

In observance of the Labor Day holiday, Samoa News will not publish on Monday. Have a safe holiday and we’ll be back on Tuesday.
