LBJ nurse reports alleged disturbance in the ER

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — On August 30, 2025, the Fagatogo Police Station (FPS) received a call from an LBJ nurse, who requested assistance regarding a patient who was allegedly causing a disturbance in the ER.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with Count 1: Public Peace Disturbance, a class B misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of $500.00, or both imprisonment and fine.

The defendant was held without bail.

According to the court affidavit, on Aug 30th, at approximately 6:02 a.m., a nurse (later identified as the reporter) from the LBJ Hospital called the FPS and requested assistance regarding a male patient who was yelling profanities at the nurses and the attending physician in the Emergency Room (ER).

Police officers were dispatched to the call, and upon arrival at the hospital, they met the reporter, who briefed the officers about what had happened.

According to the court affidavit, she stated that after tending to the man's (later identified as the suspect) wounds at around 3:00 a.m., they tended to other patients in the ER. At around 5:30 a.m., she heard the suspect yelling while they were tending to other patients.

Another nurse, who heard the suspect yelling and asking for assistance to use the restroom, informed the suspect that he could use the restroom at any time. She assisted him, but he continued to yell and ask why the nurses did not tend to him when he needed them.

The reporter/ nurse heard the suspect yelling profanities at the other nurses. She further stated that the suspect asked to speak with the LBJ Hospital CEO regarding his complaint. She informed the attending physician regarding the matter.

The doctor approached the suspect and apologized, but the suspect demanded to speak with the higher-ups. Meanwhile, he continued yelling at the nurses and the doctor, alerting all the other patients in the ER.

After the interview with the nurses, the officers, with the assistance of the LBJ security guards, canvassed the area in an attempt to locate the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Ieti Naufahu, was observed sitting in the ER lobby. The officers approached him and detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the Mr. Naufahu’s breath and clothing.

He was taken to the FPS, where he continued yelling and swearing at the officers. The suspect also claimed that the nurses were at fault and that he was not to blame.

Ieti Naufahu was booked and confined at the Tafuna Correctional Facility, to await the next available sitting of the District Court.

The defendant is identified as a 57-year-old U.S. national.
