Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Gov. Lemanu Peleti Palepoi Sialega Mauga has issued a new directive to cabinet members to immediately cease transferring employees between departments and henceforth any transfer will now require the governor’s approval.

“Effective immediately, the moving of employees within departments and transferring employees between departments must cease,” the governor said in a memo dated yesterday. “It has become apparent that such transfers have been taking place.”

“All employee transfer requests will now require approval from the Governor,” Lemanu declared.

He made clear that directors and agency heads are to adhere to this memorandum so that all employee transfers are completed with proper documentation and approvals.

“Our government employees need to be reassured that their development and stable work environment are priorities for our administration,” the governor explained. “We cannot accomplish our goals if employee transfers are not carried out with transparency and accountability.”

“Please continue to built upon the strengths of your current staff while developing plans to address challenges so that we can retain and develop talent in our government workforce,” the governor concluded.

The governor’s directive comes at a time when there have been complaints and concerns from within the executive branch of employees being transferred to other positions or to another department.
