Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Deputy Immigration Chief, Sam Soliai is leading a delegation to Fiji for the Pacific Immigration Development Community Meeting.

Mr. Soliai is accompanied by Senior Immigration Officer Ipi Ieli.

The PIDC members that include heads of Immigration or senior executive staff hold a regular Annual Meeting to discuss challenges and threats faced by immigration agencies, develop collaborative responses, enhance understanding of global migration issues, and develop agreed priorities for the organization.

To provide regular oversight of PIDC Secretariat’s activities, the PIDC members select a board comprising of ten members. The board is led by the chairperson and they meet three times in a year to monitor the implementation of the organization’s annual work plan.

A key function of the PIDC is to establish appropriate cooperative mechanisms (including for the effective exchange of information, permitted under members’ domestic legislation and administrative procedures) to contribute to the effective management of irregular migration and serious immigration-related organized crime issues. This includes people smuggling and human trafficking across the region.

The regular Annual Meeting provides members the opportunity to discuss the challenges and issues experienced by members including the strategic direction of the organization. It also provides an opportunity for Members and other regional and international partners to share their knowledge and experiences.
