Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A status hearing was held yesterday, Wednesday May 31, 2023 for Alofa Hosea, who allegedly assaulted the owner of a motel on July 16, 2022.

Court filings reveal that on July 16, 2022 at 12:25 AM, the owner called the Tafuna Police Substation to report that one of his guests assaulted him and wanted to file a report.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers met with the victim who is 59 years old, who briefed the officers about what had occurred. The victim explained that it was a staff party that rented a couple of rooms at the motel and they were drinking, but the noise was getting too loud.

The victim then approached the party and advised them to keep it down, when one individual, a gentleman later identified as Hosea, kept jeering and using the Samoan battle cry. The victim kept asking to keep the noise down but the defendant refused and that’s when the defendant allegedly hit the victim with the cover of a cooler upside his head.

Reports say that when Hosea struck the victim, he said he noticed the defendant holding a beer bottle in his hand and cracked it near his left foot and the victim saw blood on his right foot. When the victim said he was calling the police, the defendant fled the scene.

At 12:58 AM, after the incident, the victim called TPS stating that Hosea had come back to the motel. Officers went back to the scene and met up with the victim and identified Hosea.

When he was approached by officers, Hosea was notified about the incident and that he was being taken to the station for further investigation. Hosea resisted police officers and a scuffle ensued, with eventually Hosea agreeing to go to the station.

Upon arriving at TPS, EMS was contacted and requested by the victim due to his right eye where Hosea had hit him with the cover of the cooler had just had surgery.

Hosea faces one count of assault in the third degree and bail was set at $800.
