Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — A man accused for assaulting his father was arrested and he’s now being charged.

Afega Uaita made his initial appearance in Court.

He is charged with 2nd-degree assault involving domestic violence and the court set his bail at $5,000.

THE CASE

On Mar. 9, 2022, Uaite went home in Faleniu and had asked his Dad if he could get a cigarette, but his dad had answered that he has no cigarettes for him.

Uaita became aggravated and yelled at his dad to get up and go look for a cigarette for him. Uaita’s father tried to discipline his son (defendant) by telling him to stop, but the defendant was so furious at his dad that he then went and grabbed a 13-inch kitchen knife and tried to stab his father with it.

The situation got out of control and both the defendant and his dad were scuffling in the house. At the same time, the defendant’s dad tried to walk away and when he was able to walk out of the house, the defendant continued to be belligerent towards him and started throwing dishes at him while he was exiting the house.

When the dad walked out, the defendant followed him and that’s when one of their neighbors heard the altercation and called the police for assistance because the defendant was being very unreasonable.

Officers arrived at the area and bystanders guided them to the defendant’s residence and they apprehended the defendant and later transported him to the police station for further investigation.

During his booking process no alcoholic beverage was detected from the defendant’s breath or clothing. After the process he was taken to the clinic for a test and later transported to the Tafuna Correctional Facility (TCF).
