Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Manu’a commercial flights have resumed weekly flights from this week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

While Apia flights will remain Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Government is looking into allowing additional flights and they hope to have the schedule for new flights starting next week.

As for Hawaiian Air flights, Lt Governor Talauega Eleasalo Ale said during this week’s press conference they are adding more flights for this month and going forward.

There are additional flights proposed for June 20 and 27, subject to approval by Hawaiian Airlines.

“We have received preliminary approval to begin Monday flights and starting July there will be two flights [a week] from Hawaii.”

According to Talauega, ASG is “also moving away from leaving authority” to the office of the GAR to make decisions on permits and entry of vessels into American Samoa.

“This is part of moving us back to normal procedures starting with the Governor’s declaration May 28, all permits are now issued by the Attorney General and the Immigration office,” said the Lt Governor.

Adding that for those that require permits for people entering American Samoa from Samoa, or other foreign countries they should contact the immigration office and the AG’s office for the permits.

“And in time that will be the same process for vessels and for planes wishing to enter American Samoa ...”

Talauega said they are allocating the authority back to the respective agencies that are mandated to deal with these approvals.

“And removing the hurdle that has been in place for over two years,” he said.
