Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Hawaiian Airlines corporate office has confirmed that a mechanical issue prompted the delay of Monday night’s flight from Pago Pago to Honolulu and the flight didn’t depart until yesterday afternoon.

Samoa News received information early yesterday morning that Monday’s flight had arrived from Honolulu on time, but a mechanical issue prompted the delay in departure. Travelers, already checked in were later informed of the delay and that the flight wouldn’t depart until yesterday afternoon.

Responding to Samoa News queries, Hawaiian Airlines spokesman based in Honolulu, Alex DaSilva confirmed that “yes, our teams were addressing a mechanical issue with the aircraft, and we apologize to our guests for the inconvenience.”

He said the return flight to Honolulu was scheduled to leave around 2:15p.m yesterday.

“We offered our guests breakfast and lunch vouchers, hotel accommodation, and a $300 travel credit,” said DaSilva when asked what type of compensation was offered to the passengers.

The airline also assisted passengers traveling beyond Honolulu with rebooking on new connecting flights.

While Samoa News wasn’t immediately able to get clarification on the type of mechanical issue with the aircraft, information received yesterday afternoon indicates that it dealt with a fueling connection for the plane and that issue had been resolved.
