More tax refunds go into P.O. boxes and checking accounts Thursday
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The fourth batch of tax refund checks for 2022 tax filers — totaling more than $3.9 million will be released today — Thursday, Apr. 6, said Treasurer Malemo Tausaga in a brief statement yesterday morning.
According to the statement, a total of 963 taxpayers who filed on Feb. 09 to “partial” of Feb. 13 will be getting their refunds through direct deposits, the U.S Post Office and pick up at the Treasury’s Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building (EOB) in Utulei.
Of the total of more than $3.96 million for Batch #4, Treasury says that more than $1.98 million is funded with local revenues; $776,894 for the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) and over $1.20 million in the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
The ACTC and EITC portions of tax refunds are federally funded.
Treasury says that if you were expecting your refund and did not receive it, please call (633-4181) or visit the Tax Office — the ground floor of the EOB — for further information and assistance.
Not long after the statement was released on Batch #4, taxpayers took to social media sharing the good news with others and those expecting tax refunds have already made plans on how to spend it.
And the latest tax refund comes at a time when American Samoa prepares for the Easter Sunday weekend, with money used for shopping for food and clothes.
Samoa News reminds local residents that tomorrow — Friday — has already been declared as a Good Friday and a government holiday. That means the Territorial Bank of American Samoa, will be among some of the businesses closed that day, along with ASG offices.
In honor of Good Friday, Samoa News will not publish and the office will be closed. We will resume publishing on Monday, Apr. 10.
Have a blessed Good Friday and Happy Easter Sunday.
