Newly formed AMA to hold first annual general membership meeting
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The recently established American Samoa Government Employees Retirement Fund Members Association has confirmed its first annual general membership meeting scheduled on January 10, 2025.
The event will be held at the Nuʻuuli Vocational Technical High School gymnasium at 9 am.
The Association was officially incorporated last month making it a legally recognized organization that represents members and beneficiaries of the American Samoa Government Employees’ Retirement Fund (ASGERF).
In a statement, the AMA outlined that it was formed to promote good governance, transparency, fiduciary accountability, and long-term retirement security for ASGERF members. In carrying out this mission, the Association also recognizes that broader social and economic conditions — including fiscal policy, cost-of-living pressures, and public-sector sustainability — can indirectly affect the retirement security and overall well-being of ASGERF members and their families.
AMA membership is open to active employees, retirees, non-active or vested members, and ASGERF beneficiaries. The AMA also announced that it will hold its First Annual General Meeting on January 10, 2026, with the location and time to be announced.
“This incorporation marks an important step forward,” said Vaitinasa S. Hunkin-Finau, Interim Chairwoman of the Board of the ASGERF Members Association. “AMA now has a legal voice and a formal structure to engage constructively on issues that directly — and indirectly — affect the retirement security of thousands of families. Our goal is simple: informed members, sound governance, and a sustainable future for the Fund.”
AMA emphasized that it is nonpartisan, independent, and member-driven, and exists solely to advance the interests of ASGERF members and beneficiaries, while encouraging informed dialogue on issues that affect the long-term stability of the retirement system.
