Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — With the spread of a new variant in the U.S. mainland, the government is doubling down on efforts to fight the spread of COVID by bringing in traveling healthcare professionals experienced in dealing with the coronavirus.

“We warmly welcome the NuWest team as they bring their skills and experience to partner with our federal and territorial emergency response teams and LBJ staff to treat patients with COVID and help mitigate new cases,” Lt. Gov. Talauega Eleasalo Va’alele Ale said.

These experienced nurses have learned so much over the last few years about stopping community spread and are bringing a high level of care to work alongside their colleagues in LBJ Hospital. The first group arrived in the territory on April 2, 2022, with the second one on April 7.

All of this coordination has happened very quickly, and could not be possible without the hard work of Dr Ledua and his team at LBJ. We are grateful for this partnership and opportunity to serve the people during this time, NuWest said in a press release distributed yesterday.

“We appreciate the tight collaboration with the American Samoa Government leaders as well as all the residents showing support for our NuWest responders,” Amy Wildermuth, NuWest Director of Strategic Partnerships said.

No matter where NuWest travels, one thing remains constant: everyone plays a role in cooperating during the pandemic. Everyone at NuWest looks forward to sharing in the strength and resolve the community has already shown.
