Price of turkey tails continues to increase
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The hike in the prices of ten food items resulted in a 0.9% increase in the September Basic Food Index (BFI) compared to August this year, according to the BFI report released this week following the monthly survey of selected seven major food outlets on island.
The “substantial increases” was recorded for chicken legs (1.5%), taro (3.7%), pork spare ribs (1.4%), fresh milk (1.2%( sausage (0.5%, ice cream (0.4%), turkey tails (7.1%), sugar (0.3%), corned beef (1.4%) and butter (0.7%), according to the BFI compiled by the ASG Commerce Department.
“The cost of turkey tails went up last month and still continues to rise having the greatest month over month price increase” for September, the report states. Additionally, taro had a 2.3% increase back in April and then dropped again in price the next following months until the end of September, where it recorded a 3.7% increase.
Furthermore, the price for chicken legs fluctuates from month to month ending in a 1.5% increase for September. The rest of the food items remain constant in September.
