Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Department of Public Safety is investigating a case where drugs allegedly were discovered on the campus of Tafuna High School that may or may not have involved only THS students.

KVZK-TV first reported the incident, noting it had taken place on THS campus on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Allegedly an envelope containing small plastic bags and a cut up straw — the bags and maybe the cut up straw supposedly contained methamphetamine (meth or ice) — was found and is now in the custody of authorities.

Despite confirmation from police on the number of students involved, THS principal Mrs. Tutuila Togilau disputed the report initially made by KVZK-TV that it was not three students, but she refused to say more.

Samoa News through a reliable source was told that not only THS students were involved, with no other information added. This would be in keeping with the KVZK-TV report with which Mrs. Togilau took issue — that KVZK-TV had identified Tafuna High School in their news report, as not all youth were students of THS.

According to KVZK-TV, a THS teacher reported the students to the principal's office when she suspected they had hard drugs in their possession.

Samoa News also attempted to interview Mrs. Togilau, but she declined to comment on the issue.

The students were reportedly taken to the Tafuna Police Substation by police when they responded to the call from the school. It was there, allegedly that the white crystalline substance was tested and found to be meth.

At this point, because the youth involved are considered minors, no further information is being released by the DPS and the matter is now with Juvenile services.

It is unknown if the incident is a drug deal gone bad, or a drug bust where users were caught or both.
