Republicans endorse Amata for Congress, and elect party officers
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Republican Party of American Samoa held its 2026 Caucus last week at the Goat Island Cafe, where Republicans crowded the room to near capacity and Chairman Taulapapa William Sword led the Caucus through their voting process, nominating their choice for Member of Congress and party leadership.
Republicans officially endorsed Uifa'atali Amata for Congress, who will continue her tradition of the name Aumua Amata when she is placed on the ballot. The GOP reelected their local party leadership for the next two years each. Uifa'atali Amata and Frank Barron did not stand for reelection as it is the middle of their terms.
Amata's role in the RNC has reached a nationwide historic milestone. For some time, she has been the longest-serving current Member in the country, but recently, she became the longest-serving in the entirety of Republican history.
"These votes were overwhelming and unanimous," said Chairman Taulapapa. "It's outstanding to see strong unity, good attendance, and the younger generation involved and interested. This is a great base of support for Uifa'atali Amata to continue serving in Congress, and we have a healthy, growing Republican Party to strengthen American Samoa and take our message and ideals to everyone: Republicans, Democrats, and independent voters."
"I love serving our people and representing American Samoa in Congress," said Aumua Amata. "I will continue leveraging my seniority in Congress to make sure our islands are not forgotten in Washington. Thank you to every single voter for taking part in our important election process and caring about our Nation and our territory."
"The RNC has a great deal of influence on the nation's elections each year, affecting U.S. Senate and House, as well as Governor races throughout the country," said National Committeeman Barron. "I'm honored to be part of American Samoa's voice in that process, and work with Uifa'atali to represent American Samoa's Republicans during the crucial 2026 and 2028 elections."
Republicans thanked the venue, food preparers and excellent service at Sadie's by the Sea.
