Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Boys & Girls Clubs of American Samoa (BGCAS) celebrated the successful completion of its Music Club’s DIY Ukulele Project, made possible through the generous support of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau (ASVB) “Save the Music” Program. 

Through this special initiative, Club members each received a do-it-yourself ukulele kit, giving them the opportunity to build, decorate and personalize their own instrument while learning about music, creativity and craftsmanship.

As participants assembled each piece of their ukulele and added their own artistic designs, they developed a stronger sense of accomplishment, confidence, and ownership in creating something with their own hands.

Whether it is through the after school mentoring program or in a summer enrichment activity, BGCAS strives to provide spaces that intentionally design creative art experiences.

Mrs. Mary A.T. Tulafono, BGCAS Chairman of the Board of Directors & Chief Volunteer Officer, expressed her gratitude for the donation, stating: “This project was more than just making music. It helped reinforce valuable life skills such as perseverance, creativity and teamwork while fostering an appreciation for the cultural significance of the ukulele throughout the Pacific.

“On behalf of the Boys & Girls Clubs of American Samoa and most especially our Club Members, I want to extend our sincerest Fa’afetai Tele Lava to Director Taimalelagi Minnie Tuia and the American Samoa Visitors Bureau for their generosity and continued investment in the youth of American Samoa.”
