St. Theresa Elementary graduates 17

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — St. Theresa Elementary school held their 8th grade graduation ceremony yesterday, Thursday, June 1, 2023 and marks the first graduation for the month of June. St. Theresa Elementary school had a total of 17 graduates during their ceremony held at the St. Theresa School Hall.

Their class theme was “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think”-  A.A. Milne

Invocations were provided by Rev. Fr. Pio Afu, with opening hymns sung by the graduating class of 2023. Master of ceremony was none other than the school’s own principal, J. Victor Langkilde.

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Samoa- Pago Pago, Rev. Kolio Tumanuvao Etuale was the keynote speaker and provided the commencement address.

Bishop Etuale acknowledged and congratulated the graduates and their hard work throughout this school year and also gave praise for the gift of life.

“For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare not for woe, plans to give you a future of hope”, he said, quoting Jeremiah 29:11.

Alyssa Marie Cabral Diala was awarded the Most Outstanding Student. She was also recognized  for placing 1st in the group category at the National History Day competition and placing second overall.

Bishop Eutale, Jeanette Alvarez, Acting Director of Catholic Education, Rev. Fr. Pio Afu and Ruthina Masunu-Fatu presented the diplomas.

Trophy awards were also presented to each student.

Perseffony Sagote was recognized for General Excellence and also received the Student Athlete award; the Citizenship Award went to Meehkiyon Bae, who was also recognized for placing first in the NHD competition in the group category while placing second overall; and, Harry James Masunu Fatu was given the Leadership Award, Most Improved Award and Student Athlete Award and was also recognized for placing first in the NHD competition in the group category.

Other students recognized for placing first in the NHD group category were Nazarah Fouvale, Dahlia Gibson, Kalala Meatuai, and Micah Damien Vaofanua, who was also awarded 1st place overall for the school year.
