Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The Department of Public Safety is still investigating the tragic incident from Aoa that occurred this past Sunday, April 10, when a husband shot his wife and later killed himself. The wife is now in stable condition at the LBJ Tropical Medical Center after undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds.

A senior police detective confirmed to Samoa News this week that there are a number of areas investigators need to look at and one of the issues that still hasn’t come to light is the reason why this tragedy happened.

Investigators are waiting for the victim’s further recovery before they question her.

So far, investigators this week have already interviewed some of the couple’s children at their residence in Aoa. Investigators are also looking for further information from other family members in an effort to find out exactly why this happened.

The victim underwent surgery after she suffered a bullet wound in the neck and mouth. The victim is now in the Surgical Ward.

The senior detective confirmed that investigators confiscated a .22 caliber rifle from the scene believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.

This tragic incident has shocked family and members of the Aoa village community. The man died at the scene while his wife was gravely wounded and was rushed to LBJ for medical attention.
