Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — ASG Treasury announced yesterday the release of the first batch of Recovery Rebate payments, slated for today, Tuesday July 13.

According to ASG Treasury, Recovery Rebate is the reconciliation of payments to taxpayers related to the Economic Impact Payments (EIP): CARES or EIP 1 - $1,200; EIP 2 - $600, and EIP 3 - $14,000. The EIP is also known as stimulus checks.

In a statement yesterday, Treasury said Recovery Rebates are based on the filing of 2020 local tax returns, which required taxpayers to attach a recovery rebate worksheet or visit the Tax Office to be placed on the assessment listing.

The Tax Office calculated the amount a taxpayer is entitled to, less the EIP payments already received, the statement says.

According to Treasury, the first batch of the Recovery Rebate run — being released today — will cover taxpayers’ who filed from Jan. 1, 2021 to Apr. 15, 2021 (Tax Day), who submitted the recovery rebate worksheet or visited the Tax Office between the above dates.

Contact the Tax Office — 633-4181 — for more information on the Recovery Rebate. And contact the Treasury’s Disbursing Office 633-7908 concerning payments — either direct deposit or paper-check.
