Stolen Governor’s Office vehicle found “teetering” on Alega embankment
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — This past Sunday morning, a Facebook post with an image of a Governor’s Office vehicle was spotted teetering at the edge of an embankment in Alega, near Tisa’s Barefoot Bar.
The vehicle was identified as a white Ford Ranger Truck with a license plate identified as “GO-40”. A passerby, and a potential eyewitness, who spotted the vehicle said when she called 911 to report the accident, the dispatcher informed her that the driver had been taken to the hospital earlier.
According to an official press release statement from the office of the Governor, they “contacted the GO Road Marshall Division and were told that the Road Marshall Office located near the Lions Park area, had been burglarized and that a vehicle was missing from their compound.”
“The Public Safety ranking officer reported that several government officers in the area were also broken into, and at this time, police are carrying out their investigation, ”the press release said.
The press release concluded by stating that “the office of the Governor is committed to cooperating with and supporting DPS’s investigation and will take all appropriate steps to see that the perpetrator(s) are prosecuted.”
It is of note that this is the second time the Marshall’s Office has been broken into, and the first time there was evidence that the suspects had removed the keys and opened the vehicles, but never drove them away.
After the first incident, staff would take government vehicles with them to their home, or just the keys with them, however, the assigned driver of the white Ford Ranger truck had left the keys in the office.
Chief of Police, Pou Supapo declined to comment as the investigation is ongoing.
