Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The ASG Tax Office will resume its free tax filing assistance program next Monday, Mar. 21 with certain stipulations. According to Treasury, tax filing assistance is available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from 8a.m. to 2p.m.

The free service — not available on Thursday and Friday — is offered at A.P Lutali Executive Office Building atrium where social distancing and wearing face masks is strictly enforced, no children are allowed in the area, and it is limited to only 10 people within the waiting area.

The free filing service began on Jan. 31 but was halted late last month under the previous Code Red threat level, with the spread of COVID-19.

Treasury said in January that the “annual free filing assistance program”, is offered to taxpayers filing simple returns like Form 390EZ and Form 390 with the following limitations: Single & Married filing separately — $25,000; and Married Filing Jointly, Head of Household & Qualifying Widower — $50,000.

To ensure the filing process goes smoothly, Treasury recommends that tax fillers have all forms and documents in order before coming in to take advantage of the free tax filing services. And Treasury issued a “friendly reminder” that “this program is free of charge and tips or gratuities are strictly prohibited.”
