Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Another round of tax refund checks — totaling more than $1.9 million — is scheduled for release today, Tuesday, May 17, providing more cash infusion into the local economy.

ASG  Treasurer Malemo Tausaga, in a brief statement last Friday afternoon, announced that the 8th batch of tax refunds for a total of 537 taxpayers who filed on Feb. 8 to Feb. 9 — is being released today.

According to Treasury, 24 taxpayers will receive the refunds through direct deposit, 453 by mail, and 60 individuals who don’t have a mailing address on their tax returns will pick up their refund at the Treasury Disbursing Office on the ground floor of the A.P. Lutali Executive Office Building — where social distancing and wearing a face mask is strictly enforced.

Of the total of more than $1.97 million in tax refunds, $389,553 is paid from locally collected funds and over $1.58 million from the Additional Child Tax Credit, which is funded by the US Internal Revenue Service.

If you are expecting a tax refund and did not receive it, call the Tax Office for further information and assistance.

“Do not visit the office,” the ASG Treasury statement said.

Meanwhile, data from Treasury shows that Batch #7 in tax refund checks was released earlier this month before Mother’s Day. Batch #7 covered 385 tax payers who filed on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8 — with $277,693 in local refunds and a little over $1.5 million in the Additional Child Tax Credit.
