Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The National Weather Service is currently monitoring the South Pacific Convergence Zone (SPCZ) and an Invest 94P weather system for possible development within the next couple of days.

Model data together with the latest satellite imageries are showing the SPCZ migrating south of the islands while 94P tracks over the Fiji Islands and within the SPCZ line.

By late Tuesday night through Wednesday, 94P will be at its closest point to American Samoa as it continues to develop. The uncertainty in whether 94P will track over the area or remain south as the latest models project depends on where the SPCZ lies.

However, the threats of widespread showers, heavy at times with embedded thunderstorms and strong northwest winds will likely remain, regardless. Strong and gusty northwest winds will heavily impact the west to northwest to north shorelines, and especially the harbor area as winds funnel into the valley. Additionally, with strong winds and thunderstorms, expect rough seas and high surfs with strong currents to impact the coastal waters throughout the week.
