Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The American Samoa Department of Education (ASDOE) announced earlier this month that Major Siimoa Malaefono Galoia of Tafuna High School has been awarded the United States Army Cadet Command (USACC) JROTC Instructor of the Year Award.

This national honor recognizes excellence among over 4,000 instructors across the United States.  Mark Allen Pratt, Chief of JROTC Operations, officially presented Major Galoia's selection.

The release said that to the department's knowledge, this marks the first time a JROTC instructor from American Samoa has received this distinguished recognition. This achievement shines a national spotlight on the territory's commitment to leadership and youth development.

“This recognition underscores Major Galoia’s exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to mentoring the youth of American Samoa. Her vision and tireless efforts have paved the way for cadets at Tafuna High School to participate and succeed in advanced programs such as JLAB, Robotics, and Drone technology—even gaining opportunities to compete at the international level.”

Major Galoia's influence has gone far beyond the classroom. Through her leadership, the Tafuna JROTC program has grown into a model of innovation and student achievement. Her efforts continue to inspire cadets, fellow staff, and the broader community.

Tafuna High School leadership and Major Galoia extended their appreciation to Director Maefau Dr. Mary Lauagaia Taufete'e, Deputy Dr. Roxanne Salave'a, Deputy Gladowski, Deputy Mauga and Assistant Director Dr. Dottie Tuisamatetele of the Secondary division and all who have continuously supported Major Galoia and the THS JROTC program.

"This award is not just a win for Major Galoia, but for Tafuna High School, for ASDOE, and American Samoa. We are deeply proud to celebrate this historic milestone together," the press release said.
