Tsunami Warning Center cancels advisory — weather service as well

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — The NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu HI at 11:00 am sst Sunday,  Jan 16, 2022 has cancelled the tsunami advisory for American Samoa.

During the advisory period sea level readings at pago pago harbor registered a wave with an amplitude of 36 cm, exceeding advisory level of 30 cm. Waves are now below advisory levels.  

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS

* do not return to evacuated areas until the all clear is given by local authorities.    

* follow any instructions from government agencies.    

* be observant and exercise normal caution if you are near or in the ocean.

* otherwise, no further action is required.

AS HOMELAND SECURITY

Shortly after at 11:30a.m. the American Samoa Dept. of Homeland Security issued a statement saying:

Based on available information from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the tsunami advisory is now cancelled for American Samoa.

The public is advised to continue to monitor for any further updates.
