Two more COVID related deaths reported —bringing the total to 10

Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — LBJ Medical Center has recorded two more COVID-19 related deaths, according to officials who participated in yesterday morning’s COVID-19 Task Force Emergency Operation Center daily briefing.

LBJ acting chief of staff Dr. Akapusi Ledua provided the latest fatalities as part of the hospital’s presentation.

The two fatalities are both female — one, aged 74 and the other, 69 years old — the deaths were reported over the 24-hour period.

The 74-year old passed away at the hospital, where she was an inpatient, while the 69-year old died while en route to LBJ and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

American Samoa has now recorded a total of 10 COVID-related deaths since the community outbreak, which started on Feb. 21 with the first fatality recorded on Mar. 22.

Meanwhile, as of Apr. 4, the total cumulative positive cases has reached 4,957 from the community spread of the deadly coronavirus while 1,967 cases have recovered, or completed the 14-day quarantine/ isolation at home.
