Update on Pasefika Project at LBJ Hospital
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Governor Lemanu P. S Mauga led a site visit to the LBJ Tropical Medical Center earlier this week to oversee the progress of their ongoing multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects aimed at upgrading facilities. These projects include the construction of a new Operating Room (pictured), Dialysis Center, Morgue, and other essential equipment and facilities.
Also in attendance were members of the hospital's Board of Directors, Fonoti Douglas Jessop and Fiamealelei Anthony Allen, as well as the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer Dr. Akapusi Ledua, all of whom provided the governor with a comprehensive update on the various ongoing projects at the hospital, offering detailed insights into the progress and current status of each initiative.
The projects are a part of the LBJ Pasefika Project which is funded by the ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act), as well as other entities, such as the Helmsley Charitable Trust.
A generous donation of a MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Unit from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to LBJ was officially announced and presented in a ceremony last week Thursday. According to the LBJ CEO, the territory will be “the only island in the Pacific apart from Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji that will have this diagnostic equipment.”
