Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — “The total number of registered voters for the 2022 Midterm Election is 14,312,” says Chief Election Officer, Uiagalelei Lealofi, who noted that absentee voting for voters with disabilities gets underway today, Thursday.

Deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 08 election was 4:30p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Responding to Samoa News inquiries, Uiagalelei said the Election Office was able to “handle the last-minute crowd of people coming in to register to vote.”

“So far everything went smooth through 4:30 pm,” he said, and noted that Election Office staff worked until 9p.m inputting the names of registered voters into the voter roll computer system.

The updated list of Registered Voters for the 2022 Midterm election is now available to all candidates running for public office. As required by law, the Election Office must make available the list of registered voters to candidates for office after the voter registeration deadline.

The Election Office calls on all voters to remember to vote on Election Day, as “your voice counts.”

For voters who have lost their voter IDs — which is required to cast a ballot — visit the Election Office to request a replacement.

OTHER ELECTION ISSUES

Uiagalelei reconfirmed that Election Office team will go out to villages — starting today, Oct. 13 —  to assist absentee voting for voters with disabilities, to be conducted at their homes. This absentee voting process will start from the eastern side of Tutuila.

And the Chief Election Officer reminds all uniformed services voters, overseas voters and students attending institutions of learning outside of American Samoa, that the last day to request an overseas absentee ballot is Oct. 25, 2022.

The Outside Absentee Request process began on Jan. 1 this year. To request an absentee ballot, go online to the www.aselectionoffice.gov website.

Uiagalelei said three months ago that “uniformed services voters and overseas voters — outside of the US and Territories —  can also use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to request your absentee ballot.”
