Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA — Gov Lemanu Peleti Mauga has submitted a request for an additional Hawaiian Airlines flight in May and further proposed weekly flights to resume in June.

This comes well in advance to allow Hawaiian Airlines ample time with planning future operations, the governor said in a press release issued this past Thursday. The flight schedule is in addition to the flights that were previously approved between April 14th and May 26th.

An April 12, 2022, letter from Gov Lemanu addressed to Mr. Peter Ingram, Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO requested flights on Thursday, May 5, and weekly flights on Thursdays commencing on June 2, 2022.

When announcing the request the governor said, “The health and wellness of residents remains our top priority. As we continue to learn more about COVID-19, we will adjust our response plans accordingly.

“Let us trust Lieutenant Governor Talauega and the COVID-19 Task Force as they continue to review and amend policies and protocols as the situation evolves. These actions will help prevent further spread throughout the community, and safeguard the health and wellness of the general public., he said.

And once more he called on the public to work together to end the pandemic. “We need everyone's help and support. Working together we can address this urgent public health crisis, relieve the strain on both our local and federal teams, and continue to live safely with covid.”
