A man in his 20s yesterday pleaded guilty to the abduction of a girl below the age of 16 in the Supreme Court.The name of the defendant cannot be published because of the age of the girl involved. Details of the offence were also not revealed during proceedings but the alleged incident occurred on 30 November last year.The defendant was not represented in court by a lawyer. But the matter was presided over by His Honour Chief Justice, Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu.He initially faced four charges relating to the abduction of the girl including; breaking into the house of the girl’s mother, assaulting the girl and entering the girl’s mother’s house without permission.He denied breaking into the house and entering without permission as well as assaulting the girl involved in the matter.As a result, prosecuting lawyer Precious Chang withdrew the other charges against the defendant and informed that she would be proceeding with the charge of abduction of the young girl.His Honour then adjourned the matter to Monday 23 March this year at 12:30pm for the Probation Office to provide a probation report and for a summary of facts to be provided.The defendant was ordered to be remanded in custody until then.
