No. 1 Cougars vs. No. 3 Vikings for Girls HS Soccer title

Fa’asao-Marist will take on Faga’itua in the 2015-2016 ASHSAA Girls Soccer championship game on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Pago Park Soccer Stadium.

The Cougars advanced to the title game for the second year in a row after narrowly defeating the South Pacific Academy Dolphins 1-0 in the semi-finals.  Fa’asao-Marist lost to the Kanana Fou Stallions in last year’s championship game.

Faga’itua beat Tafuna 4-0 handily in the other semi-final to advance against the Cougars, a team they beat 3-2 during the season.

COUGARS 1, DOLPHINS 0

Fa’asao-Marist sent a barrage of attacks at SPA from the opening kickoff to the last whistle on March 15, 2016 and except for one, were all turned away by the stellar play of Dolphins’ goalie Anastasia Tue.

Shots from beyond and inside the penalty box, low shots, high shots, she turned them away until Evelina Leuma blasted one from inside the goalie’s area for the game’s lone goal.

Even the season’s best player, Nikki Tolmie, could not score a goal against a great performance by Tue.

She also received big help from defender Rapiel Faataa in repelling the invasive Cougars.
