Pago Pago, AMERICA SAMOA — The American Samoa Democratic Party commends the Fono for its strong resolution and recommendations opposing the proposed offshore lease sale and advocating for the protection of our ocean resources, environment, and way of life.

The resolution reflects a unified commitment to protecting the Territory's cultural heritage, marine ecosystem, and economic future while ensuring that the concerns of the people of American Samoa are clearly communicated to federal decision-makers.

ASDP also recognizes the diligent work of the House committee that led efforts to review the proposal, engage stakeholders, and develop recommendations that reflect the interests of the people. Their leadership helped bring greater awareness to the potential impacts of the lease sale and underscored the importance of local input in decisions affecting American Samoa.

In addition, we acknowledge the coalition of community leaders, environmental advocates, organizations, and concerned residents whose advocacy and public engagement helped build broad opposition to the proposed lease sale, they said. Their collective efforts demonstrated the strength of community action and the shared commitment to protecting our islands for future generations.

ASDP reaffirms its stance with the Fono and the coalition in supporting responsible stewardship of our ocean resources and ensuring that the voices of the people of American Samoa remain central to decisions that affect our future.
